Guwahati — On a sunny Saturday morning on a busy street of Guwahati suddenly a man appears taking guitar in his hand; singing the song of humanity, he appeals the people to stand against terrorism and violence but not against any religion or community.

Kishour Giri, a musician of the city who always raises his voice for the social causes, this time has come out taking the message of humanity and brotherhood.

“Islam stands for peace and love. Indian Muslims unite against the atrocities of ISIS,” reads his placard which he carries with his guitar.

“The hatred among the people across the globe has increased over the years. We have become more educated yet we have failed to understand each other. If it is so, there is no value of education. Today I have come out to give a message to the people of the globe. My dear brothers and sisters, spread love not hatred,” Giri, who is in his late 40s, tells TCN.

He says that these days with the rise of terrorist outfits like ISIS and others in some places of the world, the name of Islam is drawn into it. “I would say, these terrorists have nothing to do with the religion. They are not religious people. A truly religious person can never kill a fellow human being. They are the enemy of humanity,” Giri adds.

He adds further that all the problems can be solved with love and through peaceful manner. “At any level, all the problems can be sorted out peacefully. If our region is plagued with so many insurgent groups, some other parts of the globe are handicapped by terrorist outfits. They are against the peace loving people and humanity. For their activity, common people like us suffer and we cannot see development. Let’s stand together and defeat these enemies of humanity,” Giri who composed music for some Assamese films says.

This is not the first occasion where the musician has raised his voice. Earlier, he sang songs condemning the violence against women and children. “I feel music has a strong power to appeal to minds of people. As a musician, I’m playing my role. I hope one day my goals will be achieved,” he adds.

Born and brought up in Assam, Giri has always been hurt witnessing the violence triggered in the region by different militant outfits for the last several decades. He even staged protesta against militants in New Delhi, Kolkata and other places of the country.
