Kochi — Bishop of Thamarassery Remigius Inchananiyil said here on Friday that the Catholic Congress would organise a yatra for deliverance ( mochana yathra ) from Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram on August 8, which will converge at Angamaly.

Around 1 lakh people from different dioceses of the Syro-Malabar Church are expected to participate in the yatra, which will highlight the current agrarian crisis and issues related to the implementation of the Kasturirangan report.

Among the demands being raised by Catholic Congress are: land deed for land in possession of people before January 1, 1977 and demarcation of forest land before the implementation of the Kasturirangan report, Hindu reported.

The mochana yatra will also draw attention to the plight of natural rubber farmers and farmers who have suffered crop losses on account of natural calamities and attack by wild animals.

The mochana yatra will converge at the St. Joseph’s High School grounds, Angamaly, and the valedictory meet will be inaugurated by head of the Syro Malabar Church Cardinal George Alencherry.
