Raipur: A textbook for tenth graders in a central Indian state blames working for the rising unemployment in the country.

A teacher in the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh has complained to the state women’s commission against the same. The commission has vowed to take the matter up with state Chief Minister Raman Singh.

The textbook published by Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education states that the percentage of unemployment after Independence has increased because women have started working in all sectors.

Such gender discriminatory lessons are taught when the world tries to empower women and bring gender equality in society, reports ibnlive.com.

The website textbooks in the past have taught several such incidents of misrepresentation of facts. In 2014, West Bengal witnessed an outrage after school textbooks labeled revolutionary freedom fighters as ‘terrorists.’ The history textbooks for 8th grade describe the activities of freedom fighters such as Khudiram Bose, Jatindranath Mukherjee and Prafulla Chaki as ‘extremism and terrorism.’

In 2013, the Maharashtra government had ordered the withdrawal of grade ten geography textbooks that excluded Arunachal Pradesh from the map of India.

A year earlier, textbook in a CBSE school had claimed that non-vegetarians lie, cheat and commit crimes.
