Kochi: The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council, the apex body of the Catholic Church in Kerala, has declared its support to a day’s fast by activists of the Kerala Stray Dog Free movement in protest against inaction against stray dogs.

A statement issued by the council here on Tuesday said it supported the 24-hour fast on October 25. The statement blamed the police for turning into protectors of stray dogs instead protecting the lives of the people, who had come under serious threat, reported The Hindu.

The bishops demanded that the head of the Police Department in the State should issue instructions to the local police to provide shelters to stray dogs in the police stations.
