New Delhi: An Indian techie who was missing after last week’s terror attack on Brussels was confirmed dead.

The Indian Embassy in Belgium tweeted on March 28 that Raghavendran Ganeshan was believed to be in a metro rail on March 22 when an explosion rocked Maelbeek station in Brussels.

“RIP Raghavendran! The Belgian authorities have identified Raghavendran as one of the victims of the barbarian terror attacks of March 22,” the embassy tweet said.

The embassy also said a process was underway to hand over the 28-year-old Infosys employee’s mortal remains to his family in India.

Ganeshan first worked in Pune, before going to Brussels four years ago. He had also worked as a trainee in Bengaluru. He was working onsite in Brussels with the company Proximus.

Raghavendran’s mother, Annapoorni Ganeshan had told Express that she spoke to her son on Skype just an hour before the blasts.

Meanwhile, Infosys said in a condolence statement from Bengaluru: “It is with deep regret that we confirm the passing of our colleague Raghavendran Ganeshan in the terrible attack in Brussels. Our thoughts and prayers are with Raghavendran’s family and with those who were injured or lost a loved one in these attacks. We will continue to provide all possible support to his family in this hour of grief.”

Raghavendran had last come to Chennai in February when his wife delivered their baby.

Two Jet Airways crew members — Nidhi Chaphekar and Amit Motwanai — were injured in the explosions at Zaventem airport and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said they are recovering well. Both of them are from Mumbai.

Half a dozen people have been charged in Belgium following the triple blasts in an airport and the metro that killed 35 and injured over 200.
