Itanagar: Atleast 2 people were killed when a massive cyclone lashed at Chakma inhabited area of Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.

The deceased people included an infant who was barely one-year old and a 17-year old girl named Kalasogi Chakma from Avoipur village under Diyun circle.

More than 200 bamboo constructed Chakma houses were seriously damaged in the fierce wind and hailstorms and several beetle-nut gardens were completely destroyed. The most affected villages were Bijopur in Bordumsa circle, Dharmapur under circle and Avoipur, Jyotipur and Shantipur in Diyun circle, Meri News reported.

The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri kalikho Pul expressed great shock and sorrow on the deaths of two persons due to hailstorm and tornado like situation at Chakma inhabited areas of Changlang district.
He has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs. 4 lakh to the next of kin of the families of the deceased as per relief norms of the government and has also instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Changlang to initiate the process immediately.

The Local MLA, Nikh Kamin meet the Chief Minister and apprised him of the situation of flood and cyclone at Diyun, Miao and Bordumsa circles of Changlang district.

While condoling the deaths, Kamim instructed the ADC Bordumsa and EAC Diyun to leave no stone unturned in helping and being with the people in this hour of crisis. The EAC, Tagam Mibang is putting all possible efforts on his part to fight the wrath of both the cyclone and the flood.

The area is already affected by ongoing massive floods due to heavy rainfall in the region. By flooding of the Noa Dihing River, more than 100 families have become landless and homeless.
