Damascus: Islamic State Thursday abducted some 300 people, including some Indians, from the Syrian capital of Damascus,.

The captives have reportedly been taken to their caliphate capital Raqqa, according to india.com.

Syrian state television news channel broke the news about the abduction. According to local reports, Damascus has many migrant workers, mostly from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Yemen, Afghanistan and Oman.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has not confirmed the news of abduction. The kidnapped individuals could be subjected to dogmatic torture or might be even beheaded for ISIS propaganda material.

ISIS’ mouthpiece Dabiq has announced India as among its enemy nations.

In the past year, ISIS had taken as captives at least 39 Indian workers, mostly from Punjab. The Indian officials have not received any alert on their whereabouts.

However, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, through his sources, had confirmed that the Indians had not been executed.

Most recently, ISIS abducted an Indian-origin Catholic priest from Yemen’s Aden city. Although, there were rumors were circulating that he has been crucified, the Ministry of External Affairs have denied them.
