Kochi: The Syro-Malabar Church on Tuesday launched a mobile application for its matrimony portal, Syromalabarmatrimony .com.

According to the Church sources, there are more than 40, 18,204 members in the community out of which 5, 85, 900 live as migrants abroad and are out of reach of any dioceses of the Church. To preserve its identity and connect unmarried Syro-Malabarians away from home, the Church has come up with the app.

“Following the increase in number of families migrating across the globe, many SyroMalabar youths find it hard to get a soul-mate, with whom heshe can start a true Christian family . The aim of the website is to eradicate this problem and to bring such youths together online,” said Father Joby Mambarakkal MST, executive director of the website.

About 17 websites of different dioceses which offer options for matrimony are being brought together under this website. The registration of a person in the website will reflect in the corresponding websites of hisher diocese. There is a specific section dedicated for expatriates as well.

Any member of the community can access information about their prospective life partners and contact them through these portals. The websites will provide options for registrants to book premarriage courses as well, The Times of India reported.

While online matrimonial sites are ill-famed for not having good methods of verification like old-school brokers, the Church claims that its matrimony portal offers the best mode of verification.

The diocese will cros scheck the identification documents provided by the applicant. The profile of a particular person will only be uploaded on the website after proper verification,” said Father Mambarakkal .

Though the website is owned by the Church, there are limitations in using the website for free. The registrant can have access to contact interested profiles only after payment of about Rs2000 for six months.
