New Delhi: One person was killed and five others were wounded on October 25 in an explosion at Old Delhi’s bustling commercial area with a maze of congested lanes.

Initial investigations indicate the blast in Naya Bazar near Chandni Chowk could be from a cracker burst. A lot of explosive materials, used in crackers, were found at the site of explosion, officers probing the blast told reporters.

Another report said the victim was a garbage picker who picked up jute bag that exploded.

Police have not ruled out the possibility of terror angle.

The blast occurred just five days before Diwali, the festival of lights, when people burst huge amount of firecrackers.

The police and fire departments were alerted about the blast around 10:45 am.

Several police teams led by Madhur Verma apart from fire officials and three fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Delhi’s anti-terror wing, Special Cell, have also reached the spot.

Crime and forensic teams have taken samples and the area has been cordoned off.
