Patna: St Xavier’s College and St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology celebrated Patron’s Day here on 3 December in honour of  St Francis Xavier, patron saint of the college and  one of the founding members of the Society of Jesus.

Many people, including Fr Joseph, Fr Nishant, Fr Raymond, Fr Martin, and others from Patna attended the celebration.

Mr K. Senthil Kumar, Additional Secretary of Education in Bihar, who was the chief guest, in his address emphasised that the young people today should learn from the life of St Francis Xavier.

The saint suffered immense personal hardships but continued to serve society and dedicated his life to the service of others, he said.

Sr Basanti Lakra SCN, member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth and presently the Provincial of Patna Province in her speech congratulated the students for their wonderful performance in the musical drama and urged them to work towards building an egalitarian society.

The function began with the lamp lighting ceremony, garlanding of the portrait of St Francis Xavier and responsorial prayer.

Fr Dr T. Nishant SJ , Principal of the Colleges welcomed the guests with floral bouquets and mementos. Students displayed their talent through a musical drama written and directed by Fr Raymond, depicting scenes from the life of St Francis Xavier.

Certificates for co-curricular activities were distributed to the students.

Earlier the Holy Eucharist was held at the chapel.
