Dimapur: R. Tohanba Yimchunger, Parliamentary Secretary, Municipal Affairs, Economics & Statistics has stated that church should play a pivotal role in grooming the youngsters, motivate them to opt for different professional fields and impart soft skills training.

It should also guide youths to be responsible and respectable citizens of the community, he stated during the silver jubilee celebration of Yimchungru Baptist Church Dimapur (YBCD) held from January 21-22.

The Parliamentary Secretary also encouraged the church community to grow importantly in spiritual field as that is what the church is for.

Meanwhile, he urged to reevaluate how much the YBCD has achieved in the last 25 years and seek to re-examine whether it has reached its expectations. Tohanba also encouraged to work diligently and prayerfully while marching towards the Golden Jubilee.

A press release informed that Rev. Z. Thsankiu, Executive Secretary, Yimchungrü Baptist Boru Amukhungto (YBBA) shared that the coming of the Christ is for the poor, prisoners, underprivileged and sinners in order to bring them closer to God through salvation. He urged the congregation to understand the greatness of God and walk in the shadow of Christ.

Meanwhile, M. Khalenmew, Mission Secretary, YBBA highlighted that in 1936 the first gospel to Yimchunger land was brought by the missionaries of Sumi tribe and from there the word of God was rapidly spread. He told the congregation that it was God’s blessing and vision to raise so many achievers in different fields from YBCD so that the members of the church will proclaim the goodness of the Lord. Khalenmew further encouraged the YBCD to reach out to the needy and underprivileged.

T. Torechu, MLA and Chairman NKVIB in his greeting message motivated the congregation to learn from other tribes, be in church activities, education and socio-economic field as Yimchunger tribe is a young community. He also encouraged the congregation to be a community of honesty, humbleness & extend cooperation to neighbours wherever they reside.

P.K.F Tochu, President, WYH shared to the congregation to put God first in all “our” decisions and activities as born again Christians. He also urged to examine one’s spiritual life and rededicate their faith for the greater glory of God’s kingdom.

In the celebration, there were special songs by Yimchungrü Baptist Church Kohima, YBC Mokokchung and Showuba Baptist Church.
