Kottayam: A  seminarian of Kottayam diocese  and student of  Deva Matha College, Kuruvilangad in Kottayam district has reportedly been assaulted by an armed gang led by a political party leader .

It is reported that a group of people  led by Youth Congress leader Arun Joseph, forced their entry into the hostel and assaulted Bibin, a second year degree student with weapons in the early hours of Thursday morning.  Bibin was later rushed to Kuravilangad Taluk hospital by hostel inmates, where he is undergoing treatment.

Arun, whose father is also a prominent Congress leader,  alleges that the seminarian  behaved disrespectfully to his wife- who is a teacher at the same college.

However student groups  allege that Bibin  was attacked over a dispute on starting an unit of Kerala Students Union (KSU),  student wing of the Indian National Congress in the college.

Kuruvilangad police have recorded a complaint and started an investigation into the incident.
