Kolkata: West Bengal BJP chief lashed out at the state government’s move to issue show-cause notice to more than 100 schools for alleged promotion of religious intolerance.

Dilip Ghosh also suggested that the Mamata Banerjee Government should rather monitor madrasas and Christian missionary schools, a report by ‘The Indian Express’ has said.

State Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on March 8 said in the West Bengal Assembly that some schools run by private trusts like Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Sarada Shishu Tirtha and Vivekanada Vidya Vikas Parishad were sent notice. These institutions have network of over 350 schools having about 60,000 students. They are apparently influenced by the RSS-affiliated Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan.

“We have asked these 125 schools to explain why they have deviated from the state curriculum… will shut them down if there is no satisfactory explanation,” the minister was quoted as saying by the paper.

Ghosh while criticizing him said, “These schools do not flout government rules and maintains norms prescribed by either state or education boards. The Left government did not grant permission to these schools during its rule. Primary schools do not require a permission from the state government. The TMC government took huge donations from about 10 to15 such schools and gave them permission. Now they have decided to withdraw the permission,” he said.

Last December, he replied back to the fatwa issued against him for his drag by hair remarks against Mamata Banerjee and said that this was not Pakistan and Fatwa doesn’t work here. The Imam of the Tipu Sultan Mosque had issued a fatwa against Joshi for his derogatory remarks made against the West Bengal Chief Minister.

Joshi had earlier said that Mamata Banerjee could have been pulled and dragged by ‘his police’, had the BJP wanted to do so. He had further said that Mamata was crying only because she had lost thousands of crores due to the demonetization drive.

He added, “…we had thought that she will ultimately jump in the Ganges… this person (Banerjee) has lost her mind and we are not ready to see her insanity… the state’s people have realised their mistake of bringing in the change in West Bengal.”
