Thiruvananthapuram: After repeated delay in receiving justice for his brother who died in police custody, Sreejith resumed his months-long hunger strike in front of the Kerala state secretariat.

Sreejith’s brother Sreejeev died in May 2014 at Parassala Police station in Thiruvananthapuram.

The police had informed Sreejith that his brother committed suicide while in custody. Later, a report by the State Police Complaints Authority found out that Sreejeev died of injuries and sought action against the policemen at Parassala station.

Sreejith began his protest demanding action against said policemen in May 2015. He then switched to a hunger strike on January 30 the following year. So far, Sreejith has been on hunger strike for 463 days. He survives by only imbibing water.

Only last week, Sreejith had called off his hunger strike after Poonjar MLA PC George assured him of raising the issue in the Legislative Assembly, Times Now reported.

MLA P C George said that he has initiated a discussion on the issue in the state assembly and has got assurance from chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He added that the DGO has also ordered a report seeking action against the guilty policemen.

When the minister urged Sreejith to call off his hunger strike, the determined man said he will continue his agitation until the guilty policemen are removed from service.
