Guwahati : A group of university students in Assam celebrated World Earth Day, 22 April, by mobilising people to plant trees in the university’s neighbourhood villages.
The final year students of Mass Communication from Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) as part of their “Shout Out To Green World”, E-Event, celebrated World Earth Day on 22 April, 2017 with both online as well as offline activities.
They visited ten homes in villages around Sonapur, where the university campus is located, and planted tree saplings in each one of these homes keeping true to their theme, “Giving Back To Nature”.
The planting was live-streamed on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/shoutoutgreen/ .The students also posted a video which they made for World Earth Day, that focussed on deforestation, air pollution, water scarcity and water pollution which are also themes addressed during World Earth Day.
As part of encouraging people to support the celebration of world earth day, The Shout Out To Green World team also started a Whatsapp message chain asking people to use the “Shout To Green World” logo as their profile pictures to show their support for such an initiative taken towards celebrating world earth day!
Team member Labynta M Rynjah says, “Make the world green, give life and keep yourself healthy.” “I am proud of my team and that we are a part of such an initiative in supporting World Earth Day”, says another team member Uthomporn Saelow.
The event “Shout Out To Green World” (2017) is an E-Event (Online Event) which includes six competitions:Radio Jingles competition, T-Shirt designing, Miniature Effects Competition, Public Service Advertisement and Short-film competition. As per the theme the event focuses on issues like pollution, deforestation,water scarcity, soil erosion and degradation through these competitions.
Also as a part of the ongoing (online) E-event, Shout Out To Green World, the students conducted a fund raising and workshop activity of miniature effects creations in ADBU Tapesia campus.
The ongoing online competitions closed on 22 April and the winners will be announced at the media exhibition scheduled to be held at Tapesia campus in Sonapur, from 1 st to 3 rd May. The exhibition which is open to the public will showcase all the entries received for the competitions.
