Thiruvananthapuram: A woman in Kerala, who was subjected to frequent sexual abuse, has allegedly cut off her tormentor’s genital organ.

The tormentor is Sreehari, a self-styled godman attached to Padmana ashram in Kollam. The 54-year-old swami was admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery late May 19.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) against the man, who is also known as Gangeshananda Theerthapada Swami.

According to the police, he was reportedly abusing the 23-year-old woman since she was 17.

Reports said that the godman frequented her house to pray for her father who was paralyzed. The swami used these visits to abuse the young woman.

After suffering years of abuse, the woman sought to end the torture by attacking the man on May 19 night, TV reports said. The woman had kept a knife ready after she learned about the swami’s visit to the house at night on Friday.

Police have reportedly detained the woman’s mother for failing to report the sexual abuse. Other reports said the mother supported the abuse.

A senior police official told PTI that no case had been registered against the woman.

Hospital said in a statement: “A 54-year-old man from Kollam was admitted at 12.39 am to the hospital on Saturday. His penis had been cut and was hanging precariously. There was no way it could be stitched back. Plastic surgeons who are urology experts in the hospital did emergency surgery to stop the blood loss and to enable him to pass urine.”
