Itanagar: Family members, monks, members of Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF) 302 Action Committee and the Humanity Group gathered at the Chhemleng Ground, Tawang to pay homage to Nyima Wangdi, a monk from the Tawang Monastery and Tsering Tempa from Jangda village, who died following police firing in Tawang last year.

Many of the participants in the prayer meeting held placards demanding independent enquiry into the shooting case that left more than a dozen injured as well as submission of charge-sheets.

Sonam Yuton, the wife of deceased, the 31 year old Tsering Tempa has appealed for a CBI enquiry. She said that the main culprits should be punished and that the government should not try to protect them.

“It has been a year since the firing incident but the government is yet to name anyone who is responsible for the killing or ordered the shooting.

The onus is on the government to come out with the names of those involved. What has happened with us should not happen with anyone”, she said.

Lama Lobsang Gyatso, spearheading the movement against big hydro power projects in Tawang and whose questionable arrest by the Arunachal Pradesh Police, Tawang unit, led to widespread protest in the town on May 2, said that families continue to wait for justice.

“We have faith in democracy. We have faith in the central government that justice will be given to the families of Wangda and Tempa and those injured”, said Lama Lobsang.

Tawang SP, Manoj Mina said that administrative as well as police inquiries are being held outside the district to ensure independent inquiry.

The main demands of the SMRF, 302 Action Committee and families are actions against then DC Duly Kamduk, SP Anto Alphonse, DSP Pem Norbu Thongdok, magistrates and other officers on duty; CBI inquiry into the case, publications of Hage Khoda and Special Investigation Team reports, immediate filing of charge sheet against and handing over of case to an independent investigation agency under the supervision of the Supreme Court, informed L T Khom of the 302 Action Committee.

Meanwhile, a peaceful candle march in honour of anti-dam protesters, who were shot dead in a police firing on May 2 last year, was organized by the Monyul Support Federation for Truth (MSFT), Bomdila unit.

The rally was joined by hundreds of monks and students to express solidarity with the bereaved family and fellow brethren, who lost their lives, reported Arunachal Times.

The candle march started from the Gontse Gaden Rabgye Ling Monastery chanting prayers for the swift rebirth of the departed souls and concluded at Buddha Peace Park, where they held a mass prayer.

Meanwhile, the MSFT appealed to the concerned authorities to be careful about the consequences and its impact on the environment as well as society whenever any project is being taken up.
