International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm all over the world but it was even more special for 47 year old Pradnya Patil from Igatpuri, Nashik district. Pradnya’s name has been registered in Guinness Book of World Records for the longest yoga marathon by a female. Pradnya started doing Yoga at 4.30 a.m. on June 16th and stopped at 11.30 a.m. on 20th June.

“I performed yoga and Paranayama for 103 hours continuously. I am very happy for achieving this. Its dream come true for me,” said Pradnya while exclusively speaking with My Medical Mantra.

It was not an easy achievement for her. She had been preparing for this record since a month. She strictly took care of her diet too. “I have been on a liquid diet for a month. After few days I will gradually start consuming solid food. Liquid diet was necessary to reduce stress on the digestive system,” Pradnya informed.

Pradnya has been doing yoga since childhood. Her father and grandfather were passionate about yoga. “I grew up ‘Yogik’ environment. It was my dream to set a record related yoga. I am glad that I have succeeded in achieving it,” Pradnya said.

According to Pradnya, yoga has been source of positive energy and it has helped to overcome difficult phases in her life. “In 2010 I faced the most difficult phase in life. There was certain crisis. I had to be strong to face it. I overcome that phase because of the strength derived from Yoga. I have immense faith on it,” she said.

After creating a world record Pradnya has a message for those who want to or currently practicing yoga. “Don’t do it just for losing weight,”she said. She further added, “Yoga is a way of life. Adopt it as a lifestyle with the diet habits and daily routine.”
