Indian nun elected Mother General of Italian Catholic congregation

Rome: Sr Lissy Thattil, who belongs to the Ernakulam- Angamaly diocese in Kerala  has been chosen as the Mother General of Franciscan Sisters of St Elizabeth.

The announcement was made after the 15th General Chapter of the Rome based congregation .

Sr Lissy has been serving in Rome for the past 35 years. She is  a graduate in theology and education.

The Franciscan Sisters of St. Elizabeth (Suore Elisabettine Bigie) was instituted in 1862 by Father Ludovico (Saint Ludovico of Casoria)  in Naples,Italy.

The congregation engages in charitable work in  education, health care, assistance to the elderly and infirm, catechetical and parish apostolates in local churches along with evangelization in more than 40 institutions across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
