2 Kerala engineering students killed in accident in Karnataka 

Kottayam: Two students of Amal Jyothi College of Engineering at Kanjirapally here were killed and around 20 others injured when a bus they were travelling in overturned at Magadi in Karnataka’s Chikkamagalurudistrict on Friday night.

The deceased have been identified as Merin Sebastian and Irene Maria George. Three of the injured are critical, the college PRO said. Efforts are on to shift them from the Chikkamagaluru government hospital, where they have been admitted.

A group of 74 people, including final year students of the department of electronics and communication engineering, teachers and representatives of parents, had left Kottayam in two buses on September 5, and were to return on Sunday . The tour was organized as part of Onam vacation, the college said.

As many as 40 students were in the contract carriage–operated by 4S Travels in Adoor–that met with the accident. According to the information received here, the bus veered off the road and overturned into a field while it was heading to Kodagu.
