Juhi Chawla to present series on India’s pilgrimage centers

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla will give voice to a television series on India’s spiritual diversity and heritage scheduled to air in November.

Chawla will present the experience of visiting India’s pilgrimage sites, stitching together the stories and experiences of the pilgrims who visit these places devoutly. The 26-episode serial titled “Saranam” (refuge) will be telecast on Epic channel, India’s leading infotainment.

Celebrities such as cricketer Virender Sehwag, Sakshi Tanwar, Ranveer Brar and Devdutt Pattanaik have already jumped on the Epic bandwagon.

The series is voiceover led and Juhi Chawla will be the voice introducing like never seen before on television. Her animated and emotive voice is sure to color imaginations and add the extra edge to the breathtaking locales captured on camera, reports

Commenting on the series Juhi Chawla said, “I have done TV before but this is an offbeat project which is new to me. When the concept was narrated to me, I found it very exciting and much needed”

She said the serial would try to understand what it is in faith that moves and involves millions of people in India, a diverse country with a variety of faiths co-existing.

“The show has travelled the length and breadth of the country from Hemis monastery in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, to the Marian shrine in Velankanni in Tamil Nadu, in southern India. It also covers Somnath, Gujarat, in the west to Kamakhya, Assam, in the east. “It has been shot beautifully and the stories of the people are heart wrenching and uplifting in the same breath,” she added.

As its tagline says, it is ‘safar vishwaas ka,’ a journey of faith, and it aims at evoking a sense of spiritual insight through a secular coverage of prominent pilgrimage places in India.

Nizamuddin Dargah, Golden Temple, Murdeshwara, Sarnath are among a host of other pilgrim sites that will feature in the TV series.
