Raigarh: A 46-year-old man was today trampled to death by a wild elephant in Chhattisagrh’s Raigarh district.

The incident took place this morning in the forest adjacent to Kansabahar village under Dharamjaigarh forest division when the victim identified as Tejram Majhwar had gone to attend nature’s call, Division Forest Officer (DFO) Dharamjaigarh Pranay Mishra said.

On being informed about the incident, forest and police personnel rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem, he said.

The kin of the deceased have been given an instant relief amount of Rs 25,000 by the forest department, the DFO said.

The movement of a group of 18 jumbos is being reported in the area from last few days. Therefore, the villagers have been advised to take precautions and stay alert while passing through jungles, he said.

With this incident, so far six people have been killed in separate elephant attacks since April this year in Dharamjaigarh region, he added.

The thick forested northern Chhattisgarh, comprising Surguja, Korba, Raigarh, Jashpur and Korea districts, are notorious for incidents of human elephant conflict.
