Mumbai: At least 13 people were killed and two injured on January 28 when a mini traveller fell into a river in Maharashtra state in western India.

The accident occurred on Ratnagiri-Kolhapur road around 11:45 pm when the bus carrying 16 passengers broke railings of Shivaji Bridge in Kolhapur and fell into the Panchganga River, the police said.

The vehicle was going from Ganpatipule to Pune, some 325 km north.

Some onlookers alerted the police and the fire brigade who launched a search and rescue operation.

Eleven people died on the spot and out of 3 who were seriously injured, one died later.

Body of a child was found latter.

All the passengers were from Pirangut and Balewadi area of Pune district.
