Kochi:  Cardinal George Alencherry has disapproved the investigation report submitted by the priests’ committee in connection with the controversial land deal in Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese.

According to reports received by Mathrubhumi – a Malayalam newspaper, Cardinal Alencherry informed the meeting of the priests’ committee on Jan 30 that the report cannot be accepted.

Cardinal Alencherry convened the meeting to pacify the priests who were critical of the Church over the land deal. It is learnt that the investigation report mentions that lapses have occurred on the part of the clergy including the Cardinal in the land deal. As Cardinal Alencherry was not ready to accept the report, the meeting ended without arriving at a decision.

The Cardinal has accepted the demand raised in the meeting that the documents of the land deal should be read as a circular in Churches. The circular will be prepared by February 4.

Another demand was that the circular should mention that no action should be taken against the priests who brought out the lapses in the land deal.
