Anantapur: Members of Reservationala Parirakshana Samithi (RPS), a conglomeration of Left parties and people’s organisations, staged a dharna at the Ambedkar Square in the city demanding constitutional protection to rule of reservation.
RPS district president M Sudhakar Yadav stated that a massive public meeting will be organised on April 10 in city in support of their demands including proportional representation to all castes in budgetary allocations for their welfare, 50 per cent reservation to SCs, STs, BCs and minorities in mining projects and educational institutions and in establishment of industries, free education to the communities from KG to PG, implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations for minorities and continuation of the old pension scheme.
The RPS also demanded payment of Rs 20 lakh compensation to the families of the farmers, who committed suicide, implementation of minimum wages act in all spheres of activities, regularisation of contract workers, increase of wages for Anganwadi teachers to Rs 25,000, rule of reservation in appointment of Vice-Chancellors to universities.
Implementation of total prohibition, granting of SC status to Dalit Christians and payment of honorarium of Rs 10,000 to every church pastor and granting of loans up to rupees five lakh to women business persons are their other demands. The RPS has called upon people to make the April 10 public meeting in the city a success.
