New Delhi: Catholic prelates from the Hindi speaking areas of northern India have prayed for justice for the innocent victims of rape and murder in India.

“The only sure resort we have for Justice is prayer,” said Jesuit Archbishop William D’Souza of Patna, chairman of the Hindi Region Bishops at a candlelight prayer service organized by the Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi along with Signis India and Delhi Archdiocesan Youth Commission.

A large number of people joined 28 bishops at the April 18 evening program in front of the cathedral gate.

“The situation in the country over the victimization of minors and vulnerable persons call for creation of a clear conciseness which would help prevent such incidents occurring in the country,” Archbishop D’Souza said.

Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi lit the first candle with a prayer of dispelling the darkness of injustice with the light of Christ, while the gathering intoned the psalm 7 from the Old Testament for prayer for Justice.

The prayer service was organized as a response to the growing number of cases rape and violence against minors and women in India.
