New Delhi: Two bishops were appointed as Coadjutor Bishops of Eparchy of Pathanamthitta and the Eparchy of Muvattupuzha of the Syro-Malankara Church on April 10.

The appointments are Reverend Samuel Mar Irenios, at present Auxiliary Bishop of the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum, as Coadjutor Bishop of the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta and Reverend Yoohanon Mar Theodosius, the present Curia Bishop and Apostolic Visitator to Europe and Oceania, as Coadjutor Bishop of the Eparchy of Muvattupuzha.

A Coadjutor is a bishop appointed to assist a diocesan bishop with the right of succession.

This ecclesiastical provision was made public in Rome April 10, at noon local time, corresponding to 3.30 p.m., Indian Standard Time.

“We send our prayerful greetings and best wishes to Right Rev. Samuel Mar Irenios and Right Rev. Yoohanon Mar Theodosius and assure them of our prayers,” Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, SFX, Secretary General, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, said in press note have received a communication from the Apostolic Nunciature, that as directed by the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.
