Muzaffarpur: A short stay home for destitute children has now become a horror house due to the horrific crimes committed against the residents of the home.

‘Baalika Grauh’ (home for girl children) managed by NGO Sewa Sankalp Va Vikas Samiti came to light by chance a month ago after the Tata Institute of Social sciences conducted a social audit and made a report on the shelter home. The researchers’ conversations with the girls revealed the children were sexually assaulted, raped, forced to undergo abortions and suffer physical tortures

Soon after the report was submitted a complaint was filed by a government official from the Social Welfare department. Since then nearly 10 persons who were employees of the home have been arrested.

The NGO is run by Brijesh Thakur. According to reports, at least 40 minor girls were repeatedly raped by different people, beaten badly if they refused.

Some girls narrated their horrific experiences. One of them has claimed that one of her fellow inmates have been beaten to death and buried in the premises of the shelter home.

In another home managed by Thakur, 11 women are said to be missing. There is no trace of these women and the NGO that manages it is totally silent over it. The CBI probe is still on tracing these missing women.

According to a politician from the opposition, the rapists are both politicians and government officials which is why the case was being brushed under the carpet even though it came to light in March.

The main accused Brajesh Thakur was arrested on July 31 after a fresh case has been filed against him.

The accused have all been under Section 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 376 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).

Protests are on from all corners of the nation demanding an honest probe and strict punishment to the guilty; resignation of the Social welfare Department Minister Manju Verma and arrest of her husband who used to also frequent the shelter home.

With a new angle coming up to this shelter house horror crime, it is clear that there is much to be unearthed, uncovered and exposed to provide concrete evidence to nail the accused in the court of law.
