Margao: Bailancho Ekvott, a women’s collective in Goa, has demanded a thorough probe into an online sex racket that promotes prostitution activities through a website in the name of the Basilica of Bom Jesus.

“This is clearly a case of tarnishing the image of Goa and Goan women,” Auda Viegas told reporters on August 8. She said that a complaint pertaining to this has been lodged with the Margao town police station.

“By offering Goan women for prostitution through this website, the reputation of Goan women has been tarnished,” he said. “The website includes profiles of working women, college-going girls and housewives, too.”

She also expressed her disgust over the misuse of the name of the centuries-old church for such activities.

She also demanded that investigations into a 2005 case of a missing woman, suspected to be a victim of serial killer Mahanand Naik, be handed over to the Goa police’s crime branch.
