Doha, October 28, 2018: Noted entrepreneur, philanthropist and community leader Moodambail Ravi Shetty, popularly known as ‘Ravi Anna’ has been chosen for the maiden ‘Mother Teresa Social Harmony Award’ to be given by Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) on the occasion of 16th Annual MCC Ladies Open Throw Ball Tournament to be held on October 25 and 26 at the Doha Modern Indian School Grounds (DMIS) here.

Ravi Shetty was chosen by the award panel based on his contribution to the needy both in Qatar as well as in India. His various initiatives in building up unity among communities for promoting harmony were taken into account.

Ravi Shetty, the Managing Director of ATS (Advanced Technical Services and Associated Technical Services) needs no introduction among the Indian diaspora based in Qatar. He is an entrepreneur par excellence, benevolent and generous philanthropist and an inspiring and able community leader, a man who commends huge respects from everyone who knows him.

Ravi Shetty has served Tulu Koota as president for three terms. He was unanimously elected as patron of Tulu Koota thereafter. He is also the founder-president of Bunts Qatar. He has served as the president of Subraya Temple at Mundoor near Puttur. He was also the president of Jeernodhara Samiti of the temple.

Apart from his humanitarian aspect, he has tremendous accomplishment in business sector. He has received numerous recognitions such as Dakshina Kannada Zilla Rajyotsava Prashasti for social service, International Aryabhata award for social work, Abhyantarashree award by Karnataka Sangha Qatar on the occasion of the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M Vishwesharayya, Rajataranga award by Kalasampada Mumbai. He is also the recipient of Golden Achievement Awards Doha first edition-2017 for his outstanding contributions in social as well as business sector, given by Global Media Dubai in association with Gandhara Art and Advertising Qatar and Kerala Chamber of Commerce.

He was the president of Tulu Koota when it won the first prize ‘Ambassadors Rolling Trophy’ in the environment awareness campaign organized jointly by Embassy of India/ICC and Qatar Ministry of environment.

MCC Annual Throw Ball Tournament happens to be one of the most popular sports events – which not only promotes the game but also brings Karnataka expatriate community of Qatar together. With this background, MCC has set-up Mother Teresa Social Harmony Award to honour an outstanding Kannadiga who has been contributing to bring the people together and build unity, thereby promote harmony in the society. His/her contribution to the society and to the needy both in Qatar and India should also be noteworthy. Overall the proposed awardee should be an individual who believes and practices togetherness, unity and harmony with the principle that ‘where humanity overflows divinity is bound to follow’. The need of the hour is peaceful living and no one practiced this better than Saint Mother Theresa who worked tirelessly for harmonious living. Hence MCC decided to name this award in her honour to the most deserving Kannadiga who has tirelessly contributed for unity in diversity.

About MCC Annual Throw Ball Tournament

MCC has been organizing annual throw ball tournament for the ladies for the last 15 consecutive years. This year 6 teams, namely, Tulu Koota Qatar, Karnataka Sangha, Konkan Stars, English Modern School, Rising Stars and host team MCC will be vying for the prestigious MCC Trophy. League matches will be played on Thursday October 25 starting at 6.00 pm. Semifinal matches will commence at 3.30 pm on Friday October 26. This will be followed by official stage function around 6.00 pm and then the exciting final match followed by the prize distribution ceremony.

Ladies Throw Ball Tournament has not only provided an avenue for ladies to exhibit their sporting skills but also it has also been an opportunity for the spectators to join in the fun and spirit of the game.
