New Delhi, Dec. 17, 2018: The Church of North India on December 17 organized “Aman ka Utsav” (festival of peace) at the heart of the national capital to share the message of Christmas with others.

“We have gathered together to celebrate Aman ka Utsav, to sing Christmas Carols and to bring greetings of love, joy and peace to the people of Delhi,” Alwan Masih, general secretary of the Church of North India Synod and convener, said while opening the ecumenical program.

He also said the festival offered time to pray for the country’s political leaders such as president, vice-president, prime minister and chief justice of India, and those defending the borders and maintaining law and order.

Hundreds of people flocked to the festival held at the Central Park in downtown Connaught Place, considered the heard of New Delhi. Various Churches and Church organizations joined the program of singing carols. Fifteen choirs representing various denominations participated in the holistic program.

The festival also tried to sensitize people on social issues such as education of girl children and Clean India campaign.

“When the whole creation of God is groaning, it becomes more important for the Christians to share the love, peace and joy of Christmas. Christmas is a season of love, a season of giving and a season of sharing the love of God.,” Masih said. However, a closer look at humanity will show the dismal plight of people, many who need to be rescued.

Church of North India Bishop Warris K Masih of Delhi led the opening prayer. He prayed that Christmas brings happiness and prosperity for the people in the National Capital Region. “This Christmas as we merrily and prayerfully celebrate, let us share our happiness with those around us who need it. Let all life be filled with love, peace and joy.”
