Kochi, Feb. 8, 2019: The Save Our Sisters (SOS) forum, an association formed last year to demand action against a rape accused Catholic bishop, plans to protest against the transfer of the four nuns who gave statement against the prelate.

In connection with this, the joint action council will hold a convention on February 9 at the Kottayam old police station ground.

SOS joint convenor Shaiju Antony informed that the nuns who were transferred will take part in the convention.

“Further proceedings in the nun abuse case will be affected if the accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jalandhar continues in his post. Administrator in-charge of Jalandhar diocese should take immediate action to remove (Mulakkal) from the bishop’s post. A statewide protest will be launched if the church and the diocese refuse to take immediate action,” informed Save Our Sisters forum.

They also alleged that Bishop Mulakkal influenced the Church to transfer the nuns who have given statement against him in the nun abuse case. He alleged plans to shift the nuns out of Kerala to torture them mentally and physically, the SOS forum alleges.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India president Cardinal Oswald Gracias should intervene in the issue, demanded the group.

Cardinal Gracias is a committee member of the bishops’ summit, summoned to discuss on the nun abuse cases. The summit will be held in February.

Addressing a press meet in Kottayam, the SOS volunteers has demanded that Oswald Gracias visit the.
complainant nun at the Kuravilangad convent.

Meanwhile, the nuns who received transfer order have requested Jalandhar diocese apostolic administrator Bishop Agnelo Gracias to quash the transfer orders. The national commission for women also demanded the state government to give necessary security to the nuns.
