London, March 19, 2019: Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former royal butler, revealed in his memoir that the late Princess of Wales told him that she found her mission in life in Calcutta in 1992.

At the time, Princess Diana and Prince Charles had already separated.

In the book “The Way We Were: Remembering Diana,” Burrell detailed Princess Diana’s visit to Mother Teresa’s home in India for the sick, the starving, and the dying. At the time, Princess Diana desperately wanted to meet Mother Teresa, but she was unable to do so because the latter was sick.

After the trip, Princess Diana reportedly experienced a spiritual awakening.

“She suddenly discovered a stronger, independent self. With a sense of newfound freedom and identity, she embraced the chance to take on a new role,” Burrell wrote.

The former royal butler added that Princess Diana believed the self must know stillness before it can discover its true song. The experience of meeting the sick, starving, and the dying steered the mom of two to a more humanitarian and spiritual path.

“She came away believing she had a missing to help the sick and the dying wherever she was in the world. It was her responsibility, she said, to make a difference,” Burrell added.

Several years after Calcutta visit, Princess Diana’s note about her experiences during her trip was unveiled by Burrell. In the note, the Princess of Wales said that something very profound touched her life when she visited Mother Teresa’s home in Calcutta.

Princess Diana added that she found the direction that she has been looking for after all those years.

The Princess of Wales passed away on August 31, 1997, following a fatal car crash in Paris. She was 36 years old at that time. Mother Teresa passed away six days later on September. 5, 1997, at the age of 87.
