Changanacherry, March 9, 2019: Some 400,000 rupees were stolen from a church in Kerala, after the burglar locked up four priests in their rooms.

The incident came to light on March 8 when the vicar of St Xavier’s Church at Thrickodithanam, woke up to offer morning Mass.

the church is a forane parish of the archdiocese of Changanacherry, some 85 km southeast of Kochi, Kerala’s commercial capital.

When he found himself locked in, the vicar contacted three other priests residing in the two-story presbytery. They also found their rooms locked from outside.

The vicar then called the security guard of the church who unlocked the priests’ rooms.

The priests found the parish office on the ground floor open and the cupboards broken. The robber apparently entered the priests’ house through the passage to the presbytery from the church. The intruder entered the office after removing the plywood at the lower end of the glass door of the office.

A member of the parish committee said the robber had broken two steel almirahs in the office and took away 400,000 rupees kept there.

The parish has filed a complaint at the Thrickodithanam police station.

Dog squad and finger print experts collected evidences and police started the probe.
