Vasco, April 6, 2019: Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao of Goa and Daman urged people to follow the noble path and teachings of St Andrew and Jesus Christ.

He said that we must keep faith in God, should promote peace and love and also pass the message of Jesus to entire world.

He was speaking on the occasion of completion of 450 years of The St Andrew’s church Vasco celebrations.

At the inaugural function on April 5 evening, a Mass along with various cultural programs were held on the special occasion of 450 years completion of St Andrew Church of Vasco. Archbishop Ferrao was the main celebrant of this event.

There was a grand welcome for the archbishop in front of the church at 4 pm wherein parish priests and parishioners took part. The Archbishop unveiled the name plaque at the entrance of the church and released yellow balloons as a symbolic gesture of the commencement of the year-long celebration.

In his address to the gathering, the archbishop stated that “we receive the precious gift of faith by baptism and we should become the living example of faith in the Jesus.”

“Jesus has chosen us and we are the disciples of him and therefore we need to walk on his path of righteousness, truth,” he added.

He further said that “it is our duty to live in harmony, love and create brotherhood in the society. Our focus should be to stay united and help each others. St Andrew was also a strong believer in Jesus and he passed the message of Jesus to the entire world. He promoted values and practiced them in his life overcoming many hurdles.”

Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho said that he is happy to see that many people of various faith attended this function.

“Goans are religious people and they keep strong faith in god. Institutions like St Andrew’s Church is helping people in preserving and inculcating religious and noble ideals,” Mauvin added.
