Madurai, May 3, 2019: Two nuns of Jain religion were killed on the spot and three others sustained serious injuries in a freak road accident.
The five nuns were on a padayatra (walking pilgrimage) from Kodaikkanal, a hill station in Dindigul district, to Kanniyakumari, some 350 km south. A pick-up van, carrying the nuns’ luggage followed them.

The van then crushed the nuns walking a little front.
While Priyadarishi, 52, and Sudharishi, 45, were crushed to death, the other three sustained serious injuries.
The injured nuns were admitted to a private hospital in the city. Sholavandan police have registered a case and are investigating.
