After Ireland, Canada bans Indian preacher priest

By: Matters India Reporter

Calgary, June 24, 2019: A Catholic diocese in Canada has cancelled a retreat to be given there in July by Indian priest Fr Dominic Valanmanal who has been preaching that an increased incidence of autism and hyperactivity in children is due to their parents’ lifestyle.

Earlier this month Catholic Archbishop of Dublin Diarmuid Martin said an invitation to the priest to lead a retreat in Ireland should be withdrawn.

A priest of the Eastern Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, based at Kerala in India and which has about 4,000 members in Ireland, Fr Valanmahal has been preaching that “adultery, masturbation, homosexuality, porn, if you are addicted to these, I say to you in the name of God. . .when you get married and have children, there is a high possibility of bearing these type of children.”

He said: “They lead an animal-like life. They copulate like animals. They bear children like animals. Therefore those children also, will be like animals,” he said.

A spokeswoman for Archbishop Martin, who has jurisdiction over the church in the Dublin archdiocese, said he had been in contact with the Syro-Malabar community “and told them that Fr Dominic Valanmahal should not be invited here.”

In Ireland members of the church worship at Dublin centres in Tallaght, Lucan, Blanchardstown, Phibsborough, Inchicore, Bray, Blackrock, Swords, and Beaumont. Fr Valanmahal had been invited to conduct a retreat at the Syro Malabar Catholic Church in Tallaght on October 26th, 27th and 28th next.

Invitation to priest who blames autism on parents ‘should be withdrawn’
Last week the Catholic diocese of Calgary in Canada cancelled a retreat to be given there by the priest on July 23rd and 24th next.

From the diocese of Kanjirapally in Kerala, Fr Valanmahal has also claimed to have “cured” two autistic children, in Dublin and Limerick, on previous visits to Ireland.

In a YouTube video, previously published by The Irish Times, Fr Valanmanal speaks in Malayalam, a language spoken by people from Kerala, but translated to English for this newspaper.

CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) News independently verified the English translation of the priest’s sermons on YouTube and sent them to Calgary’s Catholic diocese for a response.

In a reply last Thursday, the diocese said Fr Valanmanal’s comments about autism “did not reflect the pastoral care and concern that the church has toward children and adults living with autism and their families.”

It said, “we regret any offence, and we renew our support for people living with autism, their families, and caregivers.”

Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality David Stanton said it would not be appropriate for him to comments on individual cases when asked whether Fr Valanmanal should be admitted to Ireland.

He pointed out that, in general, entry to the State is a matter for an immigration officer and that a person may be refused entry on grounds set out in Immigration Act of 2004.

That act allows for refusal to enter Ireland to those whose presence would not be “conducive to the public good” or “contrary to public policy.”

A petition by members of the Syro-Malabar community in Ireland calling on Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan to have Fr Valanmahal banned from entering the State has been signed by 2,737 people to date. It is aiming for 5,000.

  1. This joker should not just be debarred but should be suspended from exercising priestly office. If he doesan’t mend his ways he should be defrocked.

  2. Praying for the priests in active ministry….. I was surprised to hear that a diocesan priest of Kerala, a highrange area, near kumali, of kanjirapaly, holding no doctorate or Master’s degree from any university was doing his exorcism ministry in many European countries, it was said he was visiting 98 countries regularly since long back in exorcism ministry. After the death of Lare Rev Fr.Ruffus of Mumbai for long time no one was there in this sector as famous as Fr.Dominic. He was getting spiritual clients in thousands per day. In anakara were he lives, on 1st Saturday more than 6000 people gather from different parts of Kerala, besides it is very hard to reach such a hilly area. He is also reported to be guid number of doctors, some of them are psychiatrists. Psychiatrists tell “what medicine cannot work the ministry of the father work miraculously.
The some of the very famous doctors of Kerala secretly refer the patients to him, in matters of incurable diseases. He also is patron of scientist’s association. It was said they also feel comfortable with his spiritual ministry.
He is an exorcist of high grade in Catholic Church. He is a diocesan priests. Some of the traditional preachers are jealous of him, that people don’t visit former retreat Centers run under religious congregations. Capuchins, CMI, Vincentians, mcbs, CST fathers, IMS, and some Protestant preachers….earlier They were the major retreat preachers. Now they are not getting sufficient client and those followers also started to leave the Center. Most of these Centers are not in possition to survive as no income… While Dominic doesn’t have collection system as other traditional Centers do have….
May be the case is a slip of tongue in long run of this young priest. Earlier He was a cancer patient… Miraculously he got healed and started this deliverance ministry… Thousands of documented very serious cancers are healed through his ministry. Devil possessed people are brought here for deliverance.
Due to Miraculous healing of a relative of Pratibha Patil, the former president of India is a devotee of Fr.dominic… Let us pray for this special priest of modern time. In his convention in angamali and kochi etc more than fourth five thousand people participate.

  3. Quotes from the report:

Further he seems to have commented on the parents, “They lead an animal-like life. They copulate like animals. They bear children like animals. Therefore those children also, will be like animals.”

I am really glad to note that the laity and the government have banned the “extremist preacher”. Look at the words that he has been using in his sermons. Who is he to judge the people?

A few questions to the Preacher:

    1) Do you know that a vast majority of priests and religious (male and female) in India today are addicted to illegal sex, sexual abuse, masturbation, homosexuality and porn etc.?

    2) A few recent examples are: Franco and the priest of Mumbai Archdiocese who sexually abused a small boy. Are you ready to preach to these accused persons?

    3) Do you really know what happens in the “Formation Houses” (Seminaries, Novitiates, Philosophy and Theological Institutes)? If you are ignorant, then, please make a thorough study.

    4) Are you willing to go around to all the Formation Houses and preach?

    5) Do you have the courage to go around in India and preach to the priests and religious on masturbation, homosexuality, usage of pornography and illegal sex?

    CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME.
