Kollam, July 8: A 68-year-old Salesian priest died in a road accident in the early hours of July 7.

According to reports, Father Thomas Augustine was on his way to hospital for a check-up, when he was hit by an auto rickshaw near St. Stephen’s Church, Thope near Kollam in Kerala. Although he was taken to the hospital, he died of serious head injuries later.

A native of Kadaplamattom near Palai in Kottayam district, he was serving as the manager of Don Bosco College in Kottiyam, Kollam.

Father Augustine had earlier worked in Yemen. He had also served as the head of Department of Social Work in Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur; director of Don Bosco Youth Centre in Vaduthala, Kochi, and rector of Don Bosco Institute Susaipalyam, Bangalore.

Mortal remains will be kept at Don Bosco College, Kottiyam on July 10 morning. The funeral will be held at 10:30 am on July 11 at the Don Bosco Bhavan in Mannuthy, Thrissur.
