Sonipat, July 8, 2019: An eleventh grader in Haryana’s Sonipat stabbed his teacher several times after he was asked to show his holiday homework.

The incident happened on July 8 when Mukesh Kumari, an English teacher at Shri Ram Krishna School of Bhigan village, was asking all the students about their homework.

Recounting her horror to media persons at the Sonipat civil hospital, Kumari said that around two dozen students had not done their homework and she had made them stand inside the class.

“I was going to every student and asking them the reason for not completing their homework. I walked up to this particular student and he took out a sharp-edged weapon from his bag and stabbed me,” said the teacher.

Kumari added that though the student in question never does his homework, she was stunned to see him stab her.

She said the accused student would “often not complete his homework and not even assign any reason for it”. He stayed aloof and did not interact much with his classmates, she added.

The teacher was rushed to a general hospital in Sonipat. After getting first-aid, she was shifted to the Post Graduate Institute (PGI) in Khanpur.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Virendra Rao said that since it is a Medico-Legal Case, the case will be registered against the accused after the teacher’s medical reports come.

She has been referred to Rohtak’s Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.

Schools in Haryana opened on July 8 after over a month-long summer vacation.

School principal Neeraj Tyagi said the accused student had taken admission a week before the vacation began. He was caught and handed over to the police.
