Hyderabad:, October 19, 2019: The second national youth conference, 2019, hosted by the archdiocese of Hyderabad, organised by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) at the Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI) concluded here on Thursday.
With over 450 people, from 70 dioceses, showcasing 14 regional cultures from all over India, the five-day conference which commenced on October 13th, was an exceptional journey for youth in attendance. With extensive sessions on environment protection, leadership development, relationships and media mania the youth engaged in discussions, put forward issues and sought opinions on tackling them, said Kevin Nicholas president of the Hyderabad Youth Association.
“Over five days, we learnt how to bind youth together and how the older generations of youth can hand down their experiences to shape upcoming generations, besides learning a lot about the various cultures,” said Vikas, a participant at the conference from Varanasi.
Father Richard, Head of the archdiocese youth commission of Hyderabad said, ”The aim of the conference was to bridge the gap between the actuality and the knowledge the youth had on various topics and schedules were planned in accordance to help them learn facts and discover things while acknowledging various cultures and traditions followed.”
”It is an honour to be hosting an event of this sort that widens your perspective on many issues the youth face and to hear them articulate it all and be able to guide them gives us immense happiness,” he added.
The event concluded with the national young achievers award ceremony, conferred by ICYM, part of the conference of the Catholic bishops of India (CCBI) who recognise national young achievers who have made a change in their lives and society.
Alica Joe of Hyderabad is the only qualified coach and judge in southern India in rhythmic gymnastics, although there are a few coaches who train in artistic gymnastics. Post making a mark for herself, she now intends to produce quality gymnastics players and rhythmic gymnasts to bring laurels to the state. Her students are winning medals at many events and one of her students won a medal at a Khammam event. ”My aim is to win the Dronacharya Award before the age of 40,” she said.
Among other awardees were Aiman Happy from Jalandhar, founder of SMTHH, Silverious Kharumnuid of Shillong, general secretary of Diengpasoh Panchayat, Srikanth Ebeti, dentist and YAS ministry member from Nellore, Divya P. Dev of Neyyatinkara, government officer, Murphy John of Delhi, founder of ROPIO, Sudhir R., of Banglore India’s first flute beatboxer and LIMCA Book record-holder, Rohan Lewis of Mangalore, postal officer and member of a government project and Sunil Rao of Raipur, national wheelchair cricketer.
