Panaji – The canonization of Goa’s Blessed Joseph Vaz in Sri Lanka will see January 12 etched in the annals of history and to ensure this, India Post will release a special day cover featuring a picture of Fr Joseph Vaz.

The cover will be launched at Sancoale after the conclusion of the Eucharistic Celebration in Sri Lanka where Pope Francis will declare Vaz a saint, timesofindia.indiatimes.com reported.

The cover will have a unique cancellation mark which contains the imprint of the old Cortalim church, said Charles Lobo, postmaster general, Goa circle.

This special cover comes close on the heels of a commemorative cover on the Exposition of the Sacred Relics of St Francis Xavier which was launched on December 21, 2014, during the recently-concluded GoaPex philately exhibition.

The latest cover is the fruit of recent discussions between India Post and the committee for the Cause of the Canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz.

“We approached the committee with the proposal and they agreed. It is all thanks to their quick response that we could have this special day cover,” said Lobo.

Stamps, though minute pieces of fragile paper, often capture significant moments or lives of people who helped shape culture or history.
