Kohima – Bishop James Thoppil of Kohima ordained Fr. Lichoi John, the fourth priest from Yimchungrü tribe on January 13.
“Do everything for the glory of God” is the motto of the new priest, said a press release issued by Fr. Thomas Toretkiu, Bishop’s Secretary, Kohima.
Addressing the ordinate during his homily, the bishop said that unless he build up a personal relationship with Jesus through personal prayer, reading and meditation of the word of God and praying the office of the Church, he cannot make his priestly ministry effective and lasting, reported morungexpress.com.
According to the release, Fr. Lichoi John is the third son of Late Yungpong David and Thsaye Magdalene. He has one brother and seven sisters. At an early age of 12, soon after the demise of his dad, he was in close association with priests and religious at St. Peter’s Church Kiphire, whose life and example helped him realize his vocation to priesthood.
His participation in vocation camps, both at Parish and Diocese level, nurtured his call, the release said. After completing his matriculation from Loyola School Kiphire, he began his studies in pursuit of priesthood and joined the Seminary and finished his Class XII from St. Xavier Hr. Sec. School, Jalukie. He did one year of orientation course at Chabua, Assam and did his Philosophy studies and graduation from Salesian College, Dimapur. He also completed his theological studies at Oriens Theological College, Shillong.
