Crass commercialization has been inflicting much damage to genuine spiritual pursuits in modern times, Thomas Mar Thethos Episcopa of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar has said.
The Episcopa was delivering a discourse at the 120th annual Christian congregation, Maramon Convention, on its second day at its traditional venue on the Pampa riverbed at Maramon near Kozhencherry on Monday.
He said there was no point seeking God’s apology after seductively amassing others’ wealth.
The Episcopa further called upon the believers to bear in mind that the current age was of pseudo spirituality. He said spirituality should attain a new definition and dimension in this age of chaos and confusions. He said amassing of excessive wealth would only distance man from God.
Geevarghese Mar Stephanos Episcopa presided the forenoon session. Rev. Dushantho Rodrigo, evangelist from Sri Lanka, delivered the keynote address in the afternoon. Mathews Mar Makarios Episcopa presided.
The Metropolitan Emeritus of the Mar Thoma Church, Philipose Mar Chrysostum, will deliver the keynote address at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
