Krishnanagar: A two-day training seminar conducted by the CBCI Office of Labour on the informal workers of West Bengal has urged the authorities to provide social security to them.
The seminar was organised in collaboration with Krishnagar diocese and the Congregations of West Bengal region on 14 and 15 March.
Some 120 participants from different dioceses and institutions of the region attended the seminar.
It discussed the problems of the domestic and other labourers, and how to avail the government schemes meant for the informal workers.
Most Rev. Bishop Joseph Gomes, Krishnagar Diocese addressed the meeting.
Fr. Jaison Vadassery Secretary to CBCI Office of Labour, Sr. Rani HCM, Program Manager CBCI Office of Labour, Mr. Bidhan Chandra Mondal, Labour Inspector, Krshnagar , animated the seminar and presented the laws related to unorganised workers especially the construction workers and all the social welfare schemes.
The participants discussed in groups the challenges and issues of the unorganized workers, and reported that the unorganized workers are in need of welfare schemes and social securities.
Rev. Srs. Lssy Rose and Olivia SMI helped organise the two day event.
The seminar condemned the brutal incidents at Ranaghat against the Jesus Mary School and the heinous crime against a 75 year old sister.
Bishop Joseph Gomez shared his concern and anguish in the meeting and asked the participants to pray for the ailing nun and institute which was targeted.
All the participants of the meeting attended the candle procession held on 15th evening.
The delegates of the meeting visited the nun who was hospitalized and expressed their solidarity and prayerful support.
