New Delhi – Madhya Pradesh finance minister Jayant Malaiya and his wife were allegedly robbed at gunpoint on a train in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday morning.
The couple was travelling in AC-I compartment of Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Express on their way to Delhi.
As per reports reaching Bhopal, the dacoity took place near Kosi Kalan railway station near Mathura about 4am.
According to police sources, as many as six armed robbers, wearing masks, boarded the train at Mathura railway station. They knocked at the door of Malaiya’s coupe and one of them introduced himself as the travelling ticket examiner (TTE).
As the door was opened, they barged into the coupe and looted the couple at gun point. They also threatened them with dire consequences if they raised an alarm. The robbers fled after stopping the train by pulling the alarm chain, reported The Hindustan Times.
Malaiya later lodged a complaint at GRP police station at Hajrat Nizamuddin railway station.
In his complaint, Malaiya claimed that robbers made off with Rs 25,000 cash, a gold chain, his wife’s mangalsutra, gold rings, a bracelet and other belongings.
When contacted, a sub inspector of GRP, Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, Kushal Pal told HT that a case had been registered and investigation was on.
“Since the incident took place under Mathura GRP jurisdiction, the case would be transferred to Mathura GRP for further investigation,” he said.
Despite efforts, Malaiya and his wife could not be contacted as he was said to be in Parliament building.
