Cape Town – “African news by and for Africans” is the slogan of the new African News Agency (ANA) launched on Sunday in Cape Town, aiming to become a point of reference on a continental level.
ANA’s launch comes just weeks after confirmation of the closing of the long-standing news wire, the South African Press Association (Sapa), which dominated the national media for over 70 years, reported, radiovaticana.
With an initial investment of $20 million by African entrepreneurs, ANA plans to expand into 15 African countries. The African News Agency already counts international partners such as China’s Xinhua and Germany’s DPA news agencies.
