Fr Jesu Pudumai Doss from India has been appointed dean of the Faculty of Canon Law at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS), Rome, by Salesian Rector Major Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, who is also the university chancellor.
Fr Doss has been teaching in the same university since 2002. Beginning May, he was promoted as (Full) Professor or Professor Ordinarius of “Legislative Texts of the Church“. He has been the Dean of the Faculty (2011-2012), the Secretary of the Faculty (2004 – 2008) and a member of UPS Senate (2008-2012).
He is an external judge in the First Instance Tribunal for Marriage cases for the Lazio Region at the Vicariate of Rome (from 2006), a Special Commissioner for favor fidei cases at the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, Vatican (from 2007), a Defender of Bond for the Non Consummated Marriage Cases at the special marriage office of the Roman Rota, Vatican (from 2012) and a Consultor of the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (from 2014). He is also Canon Law consultant to various Italian dioceses and religious institutes.
Native of Chennai Fr Doss has a doctorate in Canon Law, and holds three Masters degrees in both Latin Canon Law, Oriental Canon Law and Indian Civil Law, apart from the two Masters in English Literature and Education, Bosco Information Service reported.
Author of several books on Canon Law, Fr Doss has written several scholarly articles in International Journals and authored books, mainly on Canon Law, also in collaboration with others. Freedom of Enquiry and Expression in the Catholic Church A Canonico-Theological Study (Bangalore 2007) is one among them. He has also co-edited among others: Youth India: Situation, Challenges & Prospects (Bangalore 2006); Education of the Young in Today`s India (Chennai 2011); Youth and Family in Today`s India (Chennai 2014). His latest book is: Child Protection Laws in India (New Delhi 2015).
Besides teaching at UPS, he is also a regular visiting professor at Don Bosco Theological Centre, Chennai and has also taught in the Faculty of Canon Law of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University, Warsaw, Poland, and in other Salesian Theological Centres in Bangalore (Kristu Jyoti College) and Shillong (Sacred Heart Theological College).
