Guwahati: Concluding two day Communication Management Meeting, delegates representing 12 Salesian provinces in India elected new office bearers for BOSCOM – Don Bosco Communications South Asia, April 26. Don Bosco Institute of Management (DBI) at Kharguli Guwahati hosted April 25-26 meeting.
Erstwhile Boscom South Asia delegate Fr. Anthony Erathara (E.J.) of Kolkata province on completion of his three year term as the delegate for Social Communication, was replaced by Fr Joaquim Fernandes of Mumbai province who served two three year terms as Boscom secretary.
Fr Fernandes is director of Tej-prasarini communication center at Matunga.
Fr. A. Raj of Trichy province currently editor of the Salesian Bulletin based in Chennai was elected as the new Secretary to the Communications Management Council for a three year term.
Some of the deliberations made at the Boscom executive meeting included decisions to improve news reporting and editing write-ups for Don Bosco India website in the run up to Don Bosco’s birth bi-centenary in August 2015.
The Salesian Regional Superior for South Asia Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga addressing the gathering stressed, “we need to create a writer’s forum to make the Salesians in India heard.”
The Provincial of the Salesian province of Guwahati, Fr V.M. Thomas while addressing the members insisted, “while playing a supporting role to all other sectors such as formation, education etc., the social communication team must think in terms of reaching out more effectively to more and more young people through its own initiatives.
Boscom established in 1993 is a regional network of the Salesians of Don Bosco in South Asia for reflection, sharing and coordination in the areas of formation, animation, information, business enterprise, and cultural and artistic patrimony among institutions and individuals involved in social communications ministry, set up by the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia.
