Thiruvananthapuram: Students of staff of an engineering college in Kerala are on the verge of developing a satellite.
Oman-based Al Adrak company has sponsored the project, and the students of Trinity College of Engineering have taken up the project to build a satellite called Trinity Adrak Student Satellite (Tassat).
The satellite is expected to be ready by 2018.
The college is at Poovada, Naruvamoodu, Trinity Hill, Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital.
Arun Surendran, director of the institution, said after the project launch, “With so many of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) divisions and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre located here it has become a natural space science city.
“So, a student satellite program is the perfect fit to rally the resources of any engineering educational institution.”
“We visited the Nanyang Technological University to have a complete understanding of undertaking such an ambitious project.”
Freshers will be added to the team that is moving out of the college after completing graduation, reports pc-tablet.co.in.
The principal of the college Mary Mettilda Rose is optimistic about the whole project. She said that all the departments of the college will get a great boost with Tassat.
