Guwahati — Due to the incessant rains for last 72 hours in Assam and in neighbouring hilly terrains of Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan, the water level of Brahmaputra and most of its tributaries have been going up. The surging levels of these rivers have submerged vast areas in Assam.
According to a statement from Central Water Commission (CWC), the Brahmaputra has been flowing over danger level at Nematighat in Jorhat district and at Sadiya in Tinsukia district in Assam.
The districts affected in the flood are Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Kamrup (Metro) and Jorhat.
Over 100,000 people in 12 districts of Assam have been affected in flood this year. The flood claimed two lives, one in Lakhimpur and one in Dhubri, since last Monday, reported The Hindustan Times.
Ferry services were suspended in Guwahati and Tinsukia district on Tuesday after Brahmaputra water level rose alarmingly.
On Monday evening, a boy slipped into the surging water of Gadadhar river in Dhubri and is missing since then.
The official flood bulletin from Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated that three relief camps have been opened in Tinsukia district for flood affected people by the district administration.
